Dr. Bell is a Fayetteville native. He graduated from Fayetteville High School as a National Merit finalist. He matriculated at the University of Arkansas, where graduated magna cum laude in chemical engineering and was named the Dow Chemical outstanding junior in chemical engineering. During his undergraduate studies, he was employed by Dow Chemical USA performing process control and basic science research. At Keeble College and the Center for Renaissance and Reformation studies at the University of Oxford in England, he spent a semester studying the Renaissance and Reformation. His tutorials included renaissance music and Elizabethan literature.

His medical degree is from the the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, where he was an Alpha Omega Alpha honors graduate. He was a member of the Parkland Ethics Committee and participated in a joint program with the SMU law school which investigated legal and medical ethics through literature.

He trained in Surgery at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, where he had intense exposure to trauma surgery, complex vascular surgery, and surgical oncology. Upon completing his residency, he was stationed at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He attained the Rank of Major and was named the Chief of General Surgery. He was deployed to Kirkuk, Iraq, where he performed trauma surgery in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. For his service, he was awarded the Air Force Achievement medal. While in Albuquerque, he directed the surgical section of the Saint Francis University PA program and was on the University of New Mexico Medical School surgical faculty. In this capacity, he helped teach residents and medical students and cared for trauma patients at the state’s only level one trauma center. He also provided surgical care to underserved areas in New Mexico. He was the medical director for the White Sands Missile range and was able to obtain additional training in minimally invasive endovascular surgery.

After finishing his Air Force commitment, he returned to Fayetteville, where he has practiced since 2006. He is the medical director of North Hills Surgery Center and has served as the chairman of the general surgery service at Washington Regional Medical Center. He is on the Board of Directors of Health Partners, the Washington Regional New Technology Committee, and is actively involved in the Washington Regional Trauma committee.

Dr. Bell’s professional interests include robotic surgery, minimally invasive surgery, and endocrine surgery. His practice focuses on complex abdominal wall reconstruction and complex hernia repair using a variety of robotic, laparoscopic, and open techniques. He performed the first single site robotic cholecystectomy in Northwest Arkansas and has been very active in promoting advanced robotic surgery in Northwest Arkansas. He has an active practice in the surgical treatment of parathyroid and thyroid disease. Dr. Bell is actively involved in medical education and has faculty appointments at UAMS, Harding University, and the University of New Mexico.
