Long-Lasting Weight Loss

Mounjaro works by targeting multiple hormones involved in appetite and metabolism. It has been shown to help people lose significant amounts of weight, with some studies reporting an average weight loss of over 15% of body weight. At Roller Weight Loss & Advanced Surgery, we understand the challenges of weight loss and are excited for our patients to benefit from Mounjaro in Tulsa, Fort Smith & Fayetteville. Our team of experienced weight loss specialists can help you determine if Mounjaro is right for you and provide the support you need to achieve your weight loss goals.

What Is Mounjaro?

Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a once-weekly injectable medication that helps in weight loss. The medication targets three hormones:

  • Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1)
  • Glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP)
  • Glucagon

These hormones regulate glucose homeostasis and energy balance in the body.

Tirzepatide works by activating GLP-1 and GIP receptors, which stimulate insulin secretion and reduce glucagon secretion. This process leads to a decrease in blood glucose levels and an increase in insulin sensitivity. It also slows down gastric emptying, which makes you feel full for longer periods, reducing your appetite.

Furthermore, Tirzepatide inhibits the secretion of glucagon, which is a hormone that increases glucose production in the liver. By reducing glucagon secretion, Tirzepatide helps in maintaining glucose homeostasis in the body.

Tirzepatide has been shown to reduce body weight by decreasing food intake and increasing energy expenditure. It has also improved glycemic control in people with type 2 diabetes.

Benefits of Mounjaro for Weight Loss

  • Significant weight loss: In clinical trials, patients who received Mounjaro experienced substantial weight loss compared to those who received a placebo. This weight loss was sustained over 52 weeks.
  • Improved blood sugar control: Mounjaro has improved blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes. This is important because high blood sugar levels can contribute to weight gain.
  • Reduced risk of cardiovascular disease: Losing weight can help reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease, and Mounjaro has been shown to have a positive effect on several cardiovascular risk factors, including blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
  • Increased energy and mobility: Carrying excess weight can make it challenging to move around and lead to fatigue. Losing weight with Mounjaro can help increase your energy levels and improve your mobility.

Am I a Good Candidate for Mounjaro?

If you are struggling with obesity and have a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher, you may be a candidate for Mounjaro. Additionally, if you have a BMI of 27 or higher and have at least one weight-related health condition, such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, or high cholesterol, you may also be a candidate for this treatment.

Before starting Mounjaro, your Roller Weight Loss provider will evaluate your overall health and medical history to determine if it is a suitable option for you. You may not be a candidate for this treatment if you have a history of pancreatitis, thyroid cancer, or a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma.

Here are a few factors that may make you a good candidate for Mounjaro:

  • You have tried to lose weight through diet and exercise but have not been successful
  • You are committed to making lifestyle changes to support your weight loss journey
  • You are willing to follow a healthy eating plan and engage in regular physical activity
  • You are motivated to achieve and maintain a healthy weight to improve your overall health and quality of life

Usage and Dosage Guidelines

When starting Mounjaro for weight loss, we’ll prescribe an initial dosage of 5 mg once a week for the first four weeks. This dosage is intended to help your body adjust to the medication and minimize the risk of side effects. After the initial four weeks, we may increase your dosage to 10 mg once a week, depending on your response to the medication. The maximum recommended dosage is 15 mg once a week. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
